Cholesterol Reduction and Colon Health

Psyllium is an herb. Psyllium whole husks are a dietary soluble-fiber for promoting regularity and supporting heart health by reducting cholesterol. The husks promote easy elimination by sweeping waste out of the colon.
Research reported in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concludes that the use of soluble-fiber cereals such as psyllium are an effective and well tolerated part of a prudent diet for the treatment of mild to moderate hypercholesterolemia. Research also indicates that psyllium incorporated into food products is more effective at reducing blood glucose response than use of a soluble fiber supplement that is separate from the food.
Psyllium should be taken with plenty of water. This provides an indirect benefit because most people do not drink enough water.
